DPS plug-in for iTunes enhances audio on Macs

updated 01:50 am EST, Sat February 13, 2010

Improves quality of compressed audio files

Bongiovi Acoustics has introduced DPS, an iTunes plug-in designed to enhance sound on Mac computers. DPS is claimed to improve the quality of compressed audio files such as MP3 or AAC, with adjustments to dialogue and sound effects in movies or television playback. Features include the ability to increase bass response on small speakers, support for detecting and compensating for volume differences within songs, and compatibility with various audio accessories including headphones and speakers.

The software is managed through a control panel, allowing users to select favorite “custom tuning profiles” designed to extend the frequency response of MacBook integrated speakers or other connected audio devices, according to the company. Each of the customizable profiles contains settings for over 120 different calibration points. The app also comes with built-in profiles for specific Apple computers.

DPS supports any Intel-based processor faster than 1GHz. The plug-in is available to download as a free trial, while the full version costs $30.

Great posts. Newest product arrive today such as the one above. But the most exciting thing is the latest, Meat stylus iphone. Apparently, there's a new brand of hardware being sold in South Korea – the meat stylus for iPhone. It isn't what you think. Apparently, South Korea has been experiencing a brutally cold winter, and apparently, people decided to improvise and figure out a way to use their
iPhone without freezing their fingers off. The snack food in question is Maekseubong sausages, similar to the cheap plastic wrapped bits of beef jerky, often found in gas stations for a buck, and using the plastic wrapped sausages as a stylus. Getting a few won't cost anyone thinking of the same thing enough to justify payday loans – just a few dollars – and you can use your iPhone in the cold!

To buy or not to buy...

After reading dpicardi's post, I was reluctant to try, but since this is a fairly new post and not much feedback, I decided to investigate. Mainly because I am extremely frustrated with the sound in my MacBook Pro. I went to the website for the DPS Plug and downloaded the free trial. The setup was fairly easy and it allowed me to set specially tuned profiles for my exact Mac which is cool. So this not a "one setting fits all" Plug but totally customizable. I was now even more interested. I gave this the test and I have to say this thing is really cool! I noticed a huge difference in the music I played. I was able to switch the plug on and off to see before and after difference. One thing I didn't like is the plug disappears behind iTunes when I'm playing around in iTunes. Although I found the short cut to bring it back finally. If this is the only downside, I'm a happy camper. The bass response which is regularly pretty much non-existent is much more prominent and even nice and tight sounding when using this plug. This was a nice surprise. Also the high end becomes much clearer and you actually hear depth in the music. Especially the low resolution mP3's I have in my iTunes, they start to sound like the high quality tracks I have when using the plug. I especially notice how good the audio is through this plug at any volume. I don't have to crank the volume up all the way anymore to hear the songs. Also, when I plug my headphones in (actually I just use my crappy Apple earbuds) the plug makes these baby's sound like my buddy's $200 Dr. Beats. (Which I noticed a profile for these too, this plug has got to make those suckers sound amazing but I'm not gonna shell out that kind of cash when now my earbuds rock with this plug!!!) Anyway, I am very impressed with this. The only other point I want to mention is when I played movies, music videos, & I watch a lot of video podcasts. There is a movie setting on this plug that is tailored for all video. This was amazing!!!! I watch tons of web-based video content. I actually recently got rid of my cable TV extras because I download so many TV shows and movies and such. This Plug makes me forget I'm watching on a 15" screen!!!! I gotta say, I disagree with the previous post and I even made the purchase to buy the full license. I did a lil searching on the net and found some promo codes on fat wallet. They apparently had some free promo codes but I was too late. I actually signed up at the dpsplugin.com's forum site and found info of a current promotion and found $5 off. FYI, the promo was: BALV2010
I recommend giving this a solid try. Rock On!!!!!!
