Review: CleanMyMac disk space cleaner

updated 04:15 pm EST, Fri February 12, 2010

Unnecessary for modern Macs?

MacNN has reviewed CleanMyMac, a disk maintenance utility coded by MacPaw. The program attempts to strip unnecessary files from a Mac's hard drive, returning space for more genuinely useful content. Users can target the likes of apps, caches, language files and Universal Binaries.

The program is considered well-made overall, with an attractive interface sporting features like progress bars and an Ignore list. Whereas some other disk-cleaning tools are free, however, CleanMyMac costs $30 for a lifetime license, and the tool may be less relevant in an era of 500GB hard drives and Intel-only software. It may only clear out a few gigabytes of space.

CleanMyMac costs a minimum of $15 and runs on PowerPC and Intel Macs with Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.
