Marvell intros entry-level smartphone platform

Marvell has announced a second mobile phone platform this week, after the ARMADA 618, with the Pantheon platform. Marvell executives are saying the chip will pave the way for $99 smartphones that can still connect to data networks, perform 3D gaming, play back high-definition media and run a multitude of apps. The Pantheon chips will have integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM radios.

Marvell says it has made the Pantheon chips available to some unnamed device manufacturers but hasn't named them. Pricing is only available upon request. When the first consumer handset will ship with the Pantheon chip at its core is unknown.
