Panasonic prices, dates four new Lumix cameras

Panasonic has announced the prices and release dates for four Lumix digital cameras introduced late last month. This includes the Lumix DMC-TS2, Lumix DMC-ZS7, Lumix DMC-ZS5 and Lumix DMC-ZR3. All will ship in mid-March.

The second-generation rugged TS2 can record AVCHD Lite-format HD video and can be safely submerged in up to 33 feet of water. It can withstand drops from 6.6 feet, temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and is dustproof. It also sports a 14-megapixel sensor, 28mm wide-angle Leica lens with 4.6X optical zoom and has Intelligent Auto and Face Recognition modes. It will cost $400.

The Lumix ZS5 and ZS7 both have 25mm ultra-wide angle Leica lenses with a 12X optical zoom and a 12.1-megapixel sensor. The ZS5 has a 2.7-inch LCD and can records HD video in Motion JPEG at 30FPS. The ZS7 ups the LCD size to 3 inches, gets AVCHD Lite format HD video and gets an integrated GPS sensor for geotagging content. The ZS5 will cost $300, while the ZS7 will carry a $400 price tag.

The ZR3 has a 25mm ultra-wide angle lens, an 8X optical zoom and an Intelligent Zoom that enables 10X digital zoom. There is also a 14.1-megapixel sensor and a 2.7-inch LCD. It will cost $300.

i passed on purchasing a panasonic lumix this year because of their assinine firmware lock-out of third-party batteries. i don't see anything which indicates that they're changing this. unfortunate, since they're good cameras otherwise.
