Mac Pro update reduces CPU power consumption
Apple has released Mac Pro Audio Update 1.0, which addresses heat and performance issues related to audio playback. According to the company, the fix is for "Mac Pro (Early 2009) computers running Mac OS X v10.6.2. This update reduces processor utilization during audio activities, such as playing or recording music."
The fix follows a large number of complaints from Mac Pro owners who were facing performance drops of up to 20 percent. The problem was eventually linked to certain audio tasks, such as playing music in iTunes. While the update addresses the problem for users running Snow Leopard, several Leopard users have reported similar issues.
