Brother intros $1,100 e-book reader for Japan

Brother introduced a new business-oriented e-book reader for the Japanese market on Thursday in the form of the SV-70. The 9.7-inch screen is its centerpiece with a resolution of 1,200x825 despite the SV-70 itself being just 15.5mm (0.6in) thick. Internal memory is just 100MB but should be enough to handle 500 pages; a microSD slot provides extra room.

Content can be transferred onto the reader through a USB 2.0 connection, which also allows users to connect it to a compatible Brother printer to produce hard copies of content without a PC in between. Supported files include PDF, Word and Excel. Content can also be protected by a user-configurable password.

Conspicuously missing from such a high-priced device, however are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, the latter of which was available on the SV-70's more expensive predecessor. The lithium-ion battery's life is rated at 83 hours when turning pages at a rate of one per minute.

There are currently no plans to sell the SV-70 outside of Japan, which will receive the e-reader on February 20th. [via CrunchGear]
