Canon PMA 2010 gets four PowerShots

As part of its PMA 2010 introductions today, Canon has brought out four new PowerShots that include two particularly advanced models. The SX210 IS is tailored to advanced users and carries an extremely long-range 14X (28-392mm equivalent) lens and a 14-megapixel sensor. It similarly touts a pop-up flash, records 720p video and supports the newer SDXC card format.

The camera will come in unusually bright black, gold and purple colors and should ship in late March for $350.

In turn, the SD3500 IS takes the opposite approach and is focused on ease of use first. It centers on a 3.5-inch touchscreen and uses even fewer discrete buttons than Canon's previous touchscreen efforts. While it uses a more modest 5X (24-120mm) lens, it shares the 14-megapixel sensor and 720p video of the SX210 IS. Canon ships the SD3500 IS at the end of this month for $330.

Two more conventional compact designs target the mid-to-entry range. The SD1400 IS becomes Canon's new mainstream camera and gets the 14-megapixel sensor plus 720p video. It has a shorter-ranged 4X (28-112mm) lens and is designed more for fashion with Canon's unique single-color design that extends to the lens barrel. A budget alternative, the SD1300 IS, drops to 12 megapixels and sheds the 720p video.

Both the SD1400 IS and SD1300 IS are due at the end of February and will cost $250 and $200 respectively.
