Panelfly, Sugarcube plan updated comic book app for iPad

updated 03:40 pm EST, Fri February 5, 2010

Could include new purchase schemes

Panelfly and Sugarcube are working together on an iPad version of their comic book app, a preview reveals. The current software makes it possible to buy and read comic books on an iPhone or iPod touch. While functional, it is based on a 3.5-inch screen size, making it difficult to see much detail.

The new app is being designed mainly to exploit the iPad's larger, 9.7-inch LCD, showing whole pages with more clarity. A cover browser may also mimic Apple's iBooks and Photos apps, and some menu options should be more conveniently accessible. A more radical change could involve new options in buying comic books, such as subscription payments; the developers have yet to settle on any one concept.

A release date for the iPad app is unknown, but given early work it may be ready for the March and April iPad launches.

I think an iPad running Panelfly to read Akira would be pretty sweet!
