FontExplorer X Server 1.5 improves administrator control

updated 04:40 pm EST, Wed February 3, 2010

New lockdown feature limits accessibility

Monotype Imaging has unveiled v1.5 of FontExplorer X Server, used for online font management and control. The app lets users work in groups, and combines the FontExplorer X Pro client with network administration support. Version 1.5 adds a new lockdown feature that limits the specific functions of people using Pro, as well as new server replication that distributes workloads over multiple servers.

The lockdown function makes it possible for administrators to hide certain features, like Linotype's integrated font store and a workgroup's local library. It can also regulate the automatic installation and activation of fonts on designated clients, and prevent individuals from importing fonts.

The update also provides a redesigned interface for control system settings, and better data backup that lets administrators assign both the locations that files can be backed up to, and at what times a backup can be run. FontExplorer X Server 1.5 supports Mac OS X 10.4 or later and has a starting price of $1,600, which includes one main license and 10 Pro licenses.
