Apple releases second firmware update for flickering iMacs

updated 08:50 pm EST, Mon February 1, 2010

Download available for 27-inch iMacs

Apple on Monday released a firmware update for 27-inch iMacs released late last year. Confirming earlier reports, the latest download is a second firmware update designed to address issues involving intermittent display flickering. The company in December released a graphics firmware update that was also claimed to prevent image corruption and flickering, although it was reportedly unsuccessful for many users.

Apple recently circulated an internal memo relating to yellow tint issues with the recent 27-inch iMacs, according to a leaked document. Support staff were urged to dismiss the defect as a normal color variability that "does not warrant replacement."

The display firmware update is now available from Apple's Support page or via Software Update. [Download - 294KB]
