Computer goes missing in home robbery
MacNN has posted a review of Ohanaware's software for creating HDR images, while GadgetTrak has claimed a success story for its anti-theft software.
MacNN has taken the opportunity to test HDRtist, a tool for creating high dynamic range images from groups of photos. The software was originally released in October 2009, but since has undergone one major update, which added the ability to align images that aren't exactly the same. HDR imaging is traditionally done by taking three or more shots of the same scene at different exposures, but other methods have been developed, and are explained in the software's help files. Overall, the software is said to run very well but lack a few desirable functions.
MacTrak user successfully recovers stolen notebook
GadgetTrak has updated its blog with a new promotional story about a customer who retrieved a stolen notebook using the company's software. Kari Hardre recently lost her system and some jewelery to a home robbery, but was able to use MacTrak to quickly find where the robber had gone. The software monitors a computer and will send some information to a person's e-mail account whenever an incorrect password is entered. This data includes a location based on Wi-Fi positioning, and an image taken from the computer's webcam.
