Now Snow Leopard-only
Developer Romain Piveteau has released v1.9 of LiveQuartz, a Mac image editor. The program uses a non-destructive, layer-based interface, with a number of common features such as filters. Distinguishing the app is support for multi-touch controls, and the merging of all interface elements into a single window.
The v1.9 update makes a number of critical changes, for instance adding shadow effects and flip transforms. Pixel accuracy is said to have been improved, and imports can now be made from devices including cameras, scanners and iPhones. When exporting, users can toggle background transparency on or off.
The app has also been upgraded to support 64-bit processing through Grand Central, which means it will only operate on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Older Leopard and Tiger versions remain available. LiveQuartz is technically free, although donations are encouraged. Editions are available in several different languages, such as English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Persian.
