Episode of 24 TV show to feature Apple tablet

updated 06:45 pm EST, Tue January 26, 2010

Jack Bauer to utilize the new device

Corroborating a number of earlier rumors, the Fox TV series 24 is reportedly set to feature an Apple tablet in one of the upcoming episodes, according to several tweets published by the show's director of photography, Rodney Charters. The device, referred to by Charters as the iSlate, will allegedly be utilized by the main character, Jack Bauer.

"Got a bit too excited probably more likely Episode 22 but Apple provided fingers crossed," Charters said.

It is unclear if the show is making its plans based on the rampant speculation, or if the tablet will be acquired through a promotion deal. Responding to another tweet, however, Charters suggests the network has had Apple product placements since Season 1.

MacGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw earlier Tuesday admitted that his company has been working with Apple to bring publications to the tablet platform. Apple is expected to announce the device on Wednesday at a press event held in San Francisco. [via Tasty Slate]

    Technically

Jack Bauer never actually gets to use it.

He arrives to pick it up just after someone kills it to prevent it divulging critical information.

Then he inexplicably picks up a shard of the glass touchscreen and slashes the throat of an interested party nearby that had just offered to replace the unit.

This all takes 3 shows to complete.

    Voice recognition?

I can imagine Jack screaming voice commands at the slate:

"Upload data to CTU. DO IT!!! DO IT NOW!!!"

p.s. I hope it's not called iSlate or iPad. Those are me-too names. Recycle iBook!!!

A tablet was shown Monday 1/25

... but it CAN"T be an Apple unit. Only a flash, but it was there about 17 min into the 8:00 hour. Very ruggedized. Big bumper and sort of a Linux-like UI.

    What?

You mean a company has paid money to get their product into a TV Show? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!
