Canon PMA SLRs may get new LCDs, sensors

A leak today hints that Canon's entries at the upcoming PMA photography expo could include SLRs with swiveling displays. Coming from a historically accurate Israeli source, the tip has an EOS 60D and a new Rebel arriving, both of which would have an articulating LCD to help in shooting off-angle. The change if real would help them compete against the Nikon D5000 and mirror a similar change for the G11 compact.

Features apart from these would vary widely based on focus. As the mid-range camera, the 60D would have the 50D's metal body and 15-megapixel resolution but an improved sensor, probably inheriting the low-light sensitivity of the EOS 7D. It would also get that camera's electronic level and 1080p30 video shooting. The battery and its battery grip may be new.

The Rebel variant would be smaller than the current Rebel T1i (EOS 500D) but would share the 60D's sensor. It would be at least capable of 720p30 video, but whether or not the T1i's 1080p20 would carry on isn't mentioned.

Despite the early announcements, neither camera would ship until May. Prices wouldn't suffer the 50D's early price hike, as the 60D would stay relatively low at $1,190 while the Rebel would sit at about $800. [via Canon Rumors]
