New MAXPower card adds dual eSATA to Mac Pros

updated 03:45 pm EST, Fri January 22, 2010

Supports 6Gbps throughput

NewerTech has begun shipping a new controller card, the MAXPower eSATA 6G PCIe 2.0. The peripheral is designed with Mac Pros and PCs in mind, and uses one PCIe slot to add two SATA ports to a system, each rated at 6Gbps. Installation is driverless, meaning that the controller need only be plugged in to be detected.

Cables included with the MAXPower also support more conventional 1.5 and 3Gbps drives. The controller should now be available at retail stores and through Other World Computing for $60. Mac Pros must be running at least Mac OS X 10.5, whereas PCs must be running Windows Vista, Windows 7, or a version of Linux with AHCI support.
