HP to put out a notebook with built-in pico-projector

HP to out notebook with projector, tablet PC

Before year's end, HP will release a tablet PC and a notebook with an integrated projector, said the company's VP and manager of PC systems in Taiwan, Digitimes reported on Thursday. The company will place the projector at the top edge of the screen, much like a webcam, although the projector's lens will likely face forward. Most of these devices would be manufactured by Quanta Computer.

Before this, however, HP would also release self-contained pico projectors to introduce the technology to the public outside of the notebook.

The main issue faced by HP and others who have had the same idea is cooling the projector in the notebook frame; typically, projectors run hot and often need cool-down periods just to dissipate heat.

As for a tablet PC, Wong said HP will make them keyboard-free, leaving them with a touchscreen for navigation, data input and a display. The device will most likely run on an Intel chip and Windows operating system, however, unlike the plethora of similar products that use Android or other new operating systems; Wong believes these new systems will be hurt by a lack of Windows-based apps. The VP is also concerned that such devices are victims to unsure customer demand.
