Sony Ericsson Kurara unveiled as Vivaz, gets 720p capture

updated 12:55 pm EST, Wed January 20, 2010

Sony Ericsson Vivaz uses S60, records HD

Sony Ericsson has inadvertently revealed the finished version of its Kurara through a Spanish launch. Now called the Vivaz, it resembles a smaller, sleeker version of the XPERIA X10 but runs on Symbian S60 like the Satio and is rare in its HD recording. The all-touch phone can capture 720p video, play it back and even upload it to Picasa or YouTube with its resolution intact.

TV output is limited to 640x480, however.

Most of the Vivaz's details aren't completely public, but it shoots 8.1-megapixel still images with continuous autofocus, image stabilization and smile detection. GPS is built-in and helps with navigation as well as geotagging photos. An 800x480 3.2-inch display, 3G and Wi-Fi form its other highlights.

The smartphone should ship to key areas before the end of winter, but pricing hasn't been made official. Predictions have the completely unsubsidized phone costing between $670 and $750, though it should cost much less on a contract. [via Phone Arena]
