Shipdate moved ahead

Feral Interactive says it is moving up the release date of Rome: Total War Gold Edition for the Mac, which will now ship on February 5th instead of in March. The original edition of the game was developed for Windows by Creative Assembly, and released in 2004. The Gold Edition includes 2005's Barbarian Invasion expansion, set during the decline of the Roman Empire.

The core game begins during the late Roman Republic, and has players command one of three families: the Julii, the Scipii or the Brutii. A turn-based strategic mode has players expand their influence through diplomacy, economics and troop movements. Actual battles take place in a real-time 3D environment, where players must then maneuver legions and cohorts for optimum advantage. Campaigns are set across Europe and northern Africa, reflecting the span of the Empire.

The Gold Edition of Rome can be pre-ordered for $30. It requires Mac OS X 10.5.8, along with a 1.6GHz Intel processor and 5GB of hard drive space. While 128MB of video memory is required, gamers can use Macs with Intel GMA processors.
