ProteMac has introduced a security software package, ProteMac Security Suite, that is designed to protect against threats such as Trojans and network attacks. The package pairs two of the company’s security programs, NetMine and Meter. NetMine provides a firewall for Mac OS X, while Meter works as a network traffic logger that records all incoming and outgoing TCP/IP traffic and data. All information gathered from the programs can be viewed in daily, weekly or monthly formats.
The suite includes tools for viewing specific applications that are accessing the Internet, with each connection session detailed in a log. The app supports simultaneous monitoring of multiple network-connection interfaces. Alarms are triggered if the traffic volume, bandwidth use or application usage exceeds permitted values. In addition to spyware protection and network control, the apps also provide an integrated stopwatch that can be used to time downloads and transfer rates.
The ProteMac Security Suite supports Mac OS X 10.4 or higher and is available to download directly from the company’s website for $50. Both NetMine and Meter can also be purchased separately for $30 each.
