Mac OS X security update addresses Flash vulnerabilities

updated 04:40 pm EST, Tue January 19, 2010

Additional fixes relate to CoreAudio, CUPS

Apple on Tuesday released security updates for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. The updates address several issues including a CoreAudio vulnerability that left systems susceptible to attacks via MP4 audio files. The cupsd printing scheduler has also been modified to prevent malicious code from causing a remote denial of service.

Adobe's Flash Player plug-in has been updated to v10.0.42, helping to prevent arbitrary code execution if the user visits a malicious site. Other security fixes involve TIFF images, DNG images, and a man-in-the-middle vulnerability with SSL and TLS protocols.

Security Update 2010-001 is recommended for Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.2, including the Client and Server editions. [Download - Leopard Client - 160MB] [Download - Leopard Server - 248MB] [Download - Snow Leopard - 22MB]

    Flash-be-gone!

Yet another reason to run flash blockers, read *click-to-flash.*
Otherwise, oh no! my browser just crashed again thanks to flash.
    Most-annoying-codec-ever, anyone?

Flash on Mac. Or a Formula1 jeep, equally relevant

All right, Apple! First, let's see to it that Flash works at all (for it doesn't work properly on any of My Macs), then go about patching its security vulnerabilities!

    Why patch Adobe stuff?

Why is Apple releasing updates for 3rd party software (Flash)? As far as I'm aware, they don't do it for any other 3rd party, do they?

    Great step

Now if I could only figure out why the last few months sites with Javascript have been bringing my laptop to it's knees every time.

    Huh?

When did Flash become a system component? And does one have to install this patch if they don't currently have Flash installed?
