Converts 35mm film into digital images
PlusTek Technology has expanded its line of OpticFilm USB-attached scanners with the release of the OpticFilm 7600i Ai and 7600i SE. Both new scanners are designed to convert 35mm film and slides into digital images, at resolutions up to 7200dpi. Each scanner in the OpticFilm series uses an LED-based illumination system, which is claimed to provide improved consistency while using up to 30 percent less power. The devices also integrate a Multiple Exposure feature for increasing the effective dynamic range of images.
The OpticFilm 7600i SE features the ability to automatically remove dust and scratches. The hardware is bundled with LaserSoft Imaging's SilverFast 6.6 SE Plus multiple-exposure software. Both the Ai- and SE-series scanners support preview speeds of up to 7.57 seconds for slides or 8.01 seconds for negative film.
The OpticFilm 7600i Ai provides the same basic features as the ES model, but with an IT8 calibration target. The additional calibration option can be used to obtain accurate colors, enabling quick generation of ICC profiles. The scanner also includes SilverFast Ai Studio IT8 multi-exposure software.
The scanners support Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher and connect via USB. The packages include a padded carrying bag, USB cable, and a holder for negative and positive film. The OpticFilm 7600 Ai scanner is available for $590, while the 7600 SE model is priced at $370.
