Apple takes Haiti donations through iTunes

updated 02:45 pm EST, Fri January 15, 2010

100% of donations will go to the Red Cross

Apple has begun taking donations through iTunes to help victims affected by the series of earthquakes that struck Haiti on January 12th. The monetary donations are submitted anonymously to the American Red Cross, assisting the humanitarian organization with obtaining relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers, and providing general financial resources.

The iTunes page provides several options for donations ranging from $5 to $200, with 100% of the contributions sent to the Red Cross. Apple will send an e-mail receipt acknowledging the donation.

Thought it was a great idea as soon as I saw it. I donated this way. Everyone who can; should.

iPhone/app store...

You could have these charities or a company put out a "give" app, sending the money to a list of organizations within the app. Make the app free. With millions of app store & iPhone users, you could quickly raise millions for aid.
