AmpliTube update adds 100 pieces of gear

IK Multimedia has announced two new products, most prominently AmpliTube 3, an upgrade of the company's core effects software. The program simulates various kinds of guitar gear, which can be combined in different ways. Version 3 includes more than 160 gear models, such as 51 stompboxes, 46 cabinets, 31 amps, 17 racks and 15 mics. 30 of the models are completely new, while 70 have been imported and revised from their incarnations in titles like AmpliTube Metal.

New bass models have been added, along with a new expansion architecture. Interface adjustments include a new preset manager, drag-and-drop in the stomp and rack modules, and a "MIDI Learn" command which allows hardware controls to be more quickly linked with software ones. The overall structure of the software has been been altered to introduce rotary speakers, double-miced cabinets, and support for vocals, keyboards and drums through a new stereo path. A four-track recorder allows quick capturing of music without leaving the app.

AmpliTube 3 will ship in February as a standalone utility, and as a set of plug-ins for AU, VST and RTAS-capable suites. Standard pricing will be $350, or $270 as a crossgrade from other IK software. Upgrade pricing is $200 for owners of Ampeg SVX, or AmpliTube 2, Fender, Metal or Jimi Hendrix. A bundle with the StealthPedal will cost $400.

Coming sometime early in the second quarter of the year is the StealthBoard, a USB-based MIDI floor controller. The gear handles hardware and software effects units, as well as channel switching tasks. MIDI inputs link the unit to gear such as amplifiers. While supporting any MIDI-capable hardware or software, the unit is preconfigured for IK's Powered by AmpliTube apps.

Controls include 10 switches and a pedal, with support for four external controllers. Also present on the unit are an LED display, and options for DC, USB or battery power. The StealthBoard will cost $400, and include a "Custom Shop" edition of AmpliTube 3.
