Also adds phishing protection, new malware types
Intego has launched a major update of its antivirus software, VirusBarrier X6. The software finds and removes Mac viruses and malware, also scanning for Unix and Windows viruses. Infected files are isolated in a quarantine zone. The program can further scan for malware on iPhones and iPod touches. When a scan picks up a threat, alerts can be sent via voice, dialogs or e-mail.
X6 adds dynamic code monitoring, which detects suspicious actions from applications that could be malicious. Likewise new is phishing protection, preventing users from sending personal information to faked websites. Newly recognized malware types include scareware, hacking tools, dialers and proof-of-concept malware. CPU performance control has been introduced, along with AppleScript integration and 64-bit processing support.
VirusBarrier X6 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher. A price drop and more licensing options are taking effect with the X6 release, which costs $50 under a two-machine license and $70 for a five-Mac family pack.
