Expected to precede tablet announcement
Apple will disclose the results of its first 2010 fiscal quarter on Monday, January 25th, according to an announcement. A conference call is scheduled for 2PM Pacific time (5PM Eastern), and will be shared with the public via a webcast. QuickTime is required; rebroadcasts should be available afterwards.
The timing of the call is unusually significant, as Apple is expected to announce a tablet device no more than two days after the results become available. The company may want to control the impact of the tablet on stock performance, or alternately use positive results to build towards a marketing crescendo. Either way executives are likely to field tablet-related questions during the call's Q&A phase.
Analysts are expecting the company to report high Mac sales, possibly as many as 3.3 million, which would set an all-time quarterly record. iPhone sales could reach anywhere between 10 and 11.3 million, which would easily beat the 7.4 million iPhones shipped in the same quarter last year. iPods could continue to decline as the iPhone becomes more important to Apple's profits.
