Spring Design Alex e-reader gets Borders books, price drop

Spring Design's reader gets major content boost

Spring Design christened the launch of its Alex at CES with both a major content deal and a release window. The newcomer says its dual-screen e-book reader will get access to Borders' Kobo-based e-book store and will have access to as many as 2 million titles. It not only gives the device a potential edge against the Kindle and Nook.

The reader has also become less expensive as it reaches its release date. Spring Design is now expected to ship the Alex on February 22nd and will price it at $359 despite its inclusion of GSM, EVDO, HSPa and Wi-Fi all on the same device.

Alex comes from the company reportedly behind the major design traits of the Nook and has a secondary touchscreen that provides a less complex way of navigating books. Unlike the Nook, though, Spring Design claims the device can browse the web even as it displays books.
