JVC outs Boombox, virtual surround, portable docks

JVC has announced five new options for docking an iPod or iPhone to play music over external speakers. The SP-A130 is a compact, portable speaker available in four iPod nano 5G colors. It features a sliding cover and stand and uses two one-inch speaker drivers each powered by 160 milliwatts.  An active/passive mode switch provides the choice of powering the speaker with its own amplifier or by the connected device.  The SP-A130 is powered by two AAA batteries, and arrives in March in black, silver, pink and blue for $30.

JVC's UX-F3 and NX-D2 are iPod and iPhone dockable shelf systems finished in black with blue trim lighting. The UX-F3 offers 60 watts of power and comes with two-way speakers. It dual-docks iPods and iPhones with a video output that plays back iPod-stored video through a connected television. It includes an AM/FM tuner and USB input. JVC's new NX-D2, a 230-watt system with three-way speaker design, docks two iPods or iPhones side-by side, charging them simultaneously and offering playback from each through the dock's speaker system. It has a CD player and AM/FM tuner. The remote has dedicated iPod control keys similar to the iPod control wheel. The UX-F3 ships in May for $200, while the NX-D2 ships later this month for $400.

Also coming are the RD-N1 CD player/tuner/iPod dock and the RA-P1 low-profile clock radio. The RD-N1 is a one-piece system with a black finish.  It has a top-mounted iPod dock, CD player and FM tuner, with a front audio input. The RA-P1 offers a top-mounted iPod dock that is compatible with the iPhone 3G and can be operated via AC power or batteries.  It carries an FM tuner, dual alarm with snooze, calendar and an audio input. The RD-N1 ships in April for $130, while the RA-P1 ships in March for $60.

The new RV-NB50 Kaboom is a boombox with 40 watts of power in a cylindrical shape with a woofer at each end. A shielded iPod dock leads off the feature list , with a USB host, a CD player that can handle MP3 and WMA files, and an FM tuner.  It has a remote control and a shoulder strap. The Kaboom ships this month for $300.

The XS-SR3 is a new iPod speaker system that features a wraparound design with Dolby Virtual Surround, and a dock that rotates from vertical to horizontal. Power output is five watts and the system has a remote and both analog and digital optical inputs. The JVC XS-SR3 ships this month for $150.
