updated 09:00 am EST, Fri January 8, 2010

First Bonjour update of 2010

Apple has posted a minor update for the Mac OS X edition of Bonjour, its network discovery protocol. The software locates computers, services and peripherals on a local network. Bonjour Update 2010-001 is said to address problems with "Apple TV and iTunes connectivity," beyond which Apple has provided no details. The patch is a 959KB download through Software Update.

    New to Apple TV

    We just bought ours a week ago and like it a lot, so far. This update installed, apparently without incident.

    Is this 10.6 only?

    I reverted to 10.5.8 a while ago and I see no update. Is this for 10.6 only?

    Has the update been pulled?

    I saw a posting of this update yesterday and installed it via software update on my MBP. When I got home that evening, I ran Software Update a number of times on the machine that actually serves my iTunes content (including this morning) and there are no updates available... My guess is that it's been pulled...

    Snow Leopard Only

    @Geobunny

    This update is for Snow Leopard only. OS X 10.5.x users need not apply.

    @DaveinBurl

    The update has not been pulled. It is available through Software Update IF your machine supports it.

    I'm not seeing it

    I am running SNow Leopard and I'm not seeing it... My second guess is that the 27" iMac (Core i5 which shipped in November) may have shipped with it installed already. It would be nice if Apple would ACTUALLY document updates when they release them!

    I could use it on 10.5

    It sometimes takes a while for iTunes to 'discover' my AppleTV, even when it's connected via ethernet. Other times, I'll have to restart both iTunes and the AppleTV for the two to find each other. How do we know it's only for 10.6?

    They DID document the updates. Did you not read that it is said to address problems with "Apple TV and iTunes connectivity,"

    What more do you want? Silly things like what OS is it for? What computer systems support it? What actual problems it addresses? You don't need to worry about that. That's the kind of things Windows users worry about. With the Mac, Apple handles all that for you, so you just need to wait to see if it downloads to your computer, and know that it fixes stuff.
