CES Live: Nvidia dual-core Tegra, Audi partnership [photos]

Live from Nvidia's press conference in the Hilton

Electronista is on-site to cover the major announcements from Nvidia, including the new dual-core Tegra processor that offers "an entire computer" on a 3"x3" circuit board with very little power and 10x performance of average smartphone. Details are being updated after the jump in reverse chronological order.

11:27a: Nvidia talks about 3D experiences: will provide update on 3D vision using 2D panels. Asus, MSI, and others will offer 3D gaming. Also more panels from Acer, Alienware along with previously announced Samsung and Viewsonic. Announces new 3D Avatar Game, 3D photos. New video processors in all GPU that offer Blu-ray accelerated 3D.

11:10a: Nvidia welcomes automobile as next category of PC. Nvidia partners with Audi to delivery computing to automobiles. Audi systems engineer talks about computing in automobiles. Announced that all of the 2012 Audi cars will be powered by the Tegra. Demos full access to Google maps using new Tegra platform with full-screen rendering.

11:08: 50 designs based on the Tegra are in progress, including those from Asus, Compal, ICD, MIS, Mobinova, Quanta, etc.

11:03a: Epic announces that the full Unreal 3 Engine is running on Nvidia Tegra with full lighting and other enhancements, such as HD and advanced features. "Decades apart" from Nintendo DS. Tegra brings mobile gaming to current PC specs. Full development for Tegra available as kit from Nvidia developer website.

10:57a: Nvidia says that Adobe will port Adobe Air platform to Tegra. Air offers DRM for publishers, cross-platform/rich development environemnt with off-line high-resolution experiences. Expected to shown later this year. Nvidia invites Epic founder to talk about games.

10:55: Nvidia shows off Tegra against Intel Atom with Intel's video very choppy, while Tegra shows off 1080p video without any problems.

10:52: Nvidia shows new tablets based on Tegra, including one from Foxconn showing off the performance/speed, Android-based tablet, MSI tablet, and Motion Inc. tablet with front-lit and back-lit LCD to reduce power to below 200mW. Showsoff 1080p video on tablet.

10:45: Nvidia introduces new Taega: 8 independent processors: dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, 10x performance of average smartphone (to drive resolution), and 500mw power consumption--about 20x less than a traditional PC chip. Entire computer fists on a 3"x3" circuit board: no fans, no heatsinks, no ventilation. Industrial design drives low-power (140hrs of music, 16hrs of HD video on a single charge). First-gen Zune had first-gen Tegra processor.

10:44: 2010 is the beginning of the tablet revolution. Nvidia shows off different types of tablets.

10:42a: Nvidia co-founder talks about growth of Web as application, including Facebook, Facebook game "Farmville", and YouTube.

10:35a: Nvidia conference begins. Nvidia talks about "gamechanging" technologies, including Walkman, Kindle (enabled by digital ink), iPhone (combining two genres of iPod and phone along with early Google maps apps and now the historical App store), etc.
