Cydle to out first portable device with Mobile TV

South Korea's Cydle, which builds in-car multimedia systems, promises to bring its newest handheld entertainment device to CES, as part of its P29 Series. The Cydle P29A is a multimedia player that also integrates subscription-free Mobile DTV and an HD Radio tuner. The device will be one of the first to bring the ATSC-created standard to the US in a non-phone device. Available channels will be dependant on a user's location, Cydle says.

The device will otherwise utilize a 2.9-inch touchscreen with 240x320 resolution that will automatically reorient itself thanks to an integrated accelerometer for landscape viewing. Cydle runs the handheld on an ARM9-based, 480MHz processor running a custom OS known as Nucleus, and says the device will be available with built-in 4GB or 8GB flash drives. Stereo Bluetooth audio is also part of the design.

A photo viewer will also be part of the software, with thumbnail views that will make it easier to find a particular photo. Other preloaded software consists of a world clock, alarm functionality, a stopwatch and calculator. A voice recorder is likewise integrated and is matched by a built-in microphone.

The Cydle P29A is estimated to cost $199 when it ships in the spring of next year.
