updated 07:05 pm EST, Mon December 28, 2009

Device described as a 'smartpad'

Notion Ink has announced additional details regarding its upcoming tablet device, which is now referenced by the monicker Adam, according to The Hindu. The Android-based device features a three-mode Pixel Qi display filled with 1024x600 pixels and spanning 10.1 inches. The LCD offers the unique ability to run as a standard panel, a low-power trans-reflective display, or a sunlight-readable e-paper mode.

The company claims the NVIDIA Tegra system-on-chip (SOC) components and efficient screen technology allow the tablet to play 1080p video for eight hours, with Internet browsing powered for 16 hours and standby time extending to two full days.

"We are the only ones to use Pixel Qi screens for Tablet technology. It consumes one-tenth of the battery compared with conventional LCDs," said Notion's founder and director Rohan Shravan.

The device also integrates sensors for ambient light and proximity, along with an accelerometer, GPS, digital compass, speakers, microphone, and 3-megapixel rotatable camera. On-board flash memory capacities will range from 16GB to 32GB, while users can expand storage with an SD card.

Notion Ink plans to preview the Adam at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show scheduled for January, however the Android OS large-screen optimizations have yet to be finalized. Although the project development continues, the company promises the tablet will ship in June for 15,000 RUS (~$325 USD).
