Audio-Techinca turntable converts vinyl to MP3s

Audio-Technica on Tuesday introduced its AT-LP60-USB LP-to-Digital Turntable System that lets users convert the music recorded on their vinyl collections to digital media files. The turntable ships with a phono cartridge, USB cable and software that is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X computers. A phono preamp is built-in, and users can select between 33.33 and 45RPM playback speeds.

The turntable can be integrated into existing and modern home audio systems that do not have a phono input thanks to its RCA outputs and an included RCA-to-3.5mm adapter. The device has a heavy-duty cast aluminum platter, a Dual Magnet stereo cartridge with replaceable stylus, and a pickup arm with soft damping control.

Audacity, the bundled software, allows the converted files to be played back on personal media players and other devices. It contains audio editing features that allow users to remove clicks or noises.

The AT-LP60-USB ships in January and carries a $229 price tag. A version without the USB port or software package, the AT-LP60, can be purchased now for $149.

    Not-So-Quality USB

@48 kHz, you know the Audiophiles, being the most likely wanting to use these, aren't going to be happy at this middling sampling rate.

I guess if you've got the high-quality input and software already, it'd be smarter going with a cheaper analogue turntable.
