Nook gets software update from Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble has rolled out a software update for its Nook e-book reader, which aims to improve early complaints of slow speeds along with some other fixes. The speed of the page turns and overall navigation are said to be faster, and page numbers as well as a reader's progress through the book is also better handled, with clearer page numbering.

The previously noted lag in the user interface has also been reduced. The software update needs a few minutes to install and requires a reboot.

The Nook uses a version of Android 1.5 largely based on Google's stock OS and as such isn't as greatly optimized for the Nook's unique dual-display interface and browsing.
