Drops PowerPC compatibility
Avid has released Pro Tools 8.0.3, a major update to the company's audio production suite. The software handles most aspects of music production, from recording and mixing through to post-production and wholesale music composition. The v8.0.3 patch at last adds Snow Leopard support, for Macs running v10.6.1 or better.
Few under-the-hood details of the update have been made public, but the program now requires an Intel Mac, relegating PowerPC systems to using v8.0.1. Also made obsolete are the original Mbox and the Expansion|HD chassis. Compatibility issues are said to exist with Logic Pro 9 and the MOTU Digital Performer when either is running in DAE mode.
The suite runs on Mac OS X 10.5.5 or later, and costs $360 in an edition for M-Audio interfaces. The v8.0.3 update is a free download for all editions of Pro Tools 8.

pity
my office upgraded all our machines over the last few months and since we were between projects switched the audio team to Logic (something they had been pondering for a while) because Pro-Tools was anti-SL. if this had happened sooner they might not have switched.
