Sidelines iPhone 3G, iPod touch
Apple has begun airing a new TV spot, "12 Apps of Xmas." The seasonally-themed ad exploits "The Twelve Days of Christmas" as a means of promoting the convenience of iPhone content. Some featured apps include ones for baking, travel, weather and controlling in-home lighting. A disclaimer warns that the last app requires extra hardware.
The ad continues Apple's emphasis on the App Store, typically seen as the main draw of the company's handhelds beyond basics like multi-touch. The ad also conspicuously focuses on the iPhone 3GS, ignoring the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch. Both devices are capable of running the apps seen in the new ad.
