Google has released an updated version of its Google Mobile application for the iPhone and iPod touch. The software attempts to simplify search, for instance allowing handhelds with microphones to run voice-based queries. New in the app is the ability to see more search results at once, and launch webpages without quitting to Safari.
Visual customization options have been made more prominent, allowing different color schemes in shades such as red or taupe. Faster handhelds can toggle an animated waveform while running a voice search. Mandarin and Japanese have been added as supported languages, and users can now specify a language or accent for voice, which may help people transplanted to foreign countries. The app is a free download.
