Voice recognition app turns speech to text

Nuance Communications has introduced Dragon Dictation for the iPhone, its latest program that enables users to speak both e-mails and text messages without the need for typing. The program uses the Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition technology that is said to support users talking at speeds up to five times faster than regular typing, and allows them to speak anything from single-lined text messages to status updates for Facebook, or even something as long as multi-paragraph e-mails.

Dragon Dictation works with the iPhone clipboard, where users can speak what they want typed and then simply copy and paste the data to other applications. Additional features include an editing function that provides a list of suggested words, and the ability to upload names from the users address book without retrieving other personal information such as phone numbers or addresses.

Dragon Dictation for the iPhone can be found on the App Store and is currently available as a free download.

data mining seems ubiquitous now despite the promise of security/privacy - once the info leaves the nest recourse would seem futile, and liability unknown
