New JVC Everio most compact for features

JVC chose to add one more camcorder to its range at the very end of the year with a unique entry, the Everio GZ-HD620. Billed as both the lightest and smallest camcorder with a hard drive, it weighs just under 0.6 pounds despite its 120GB hard drive and is both 4.5 inches long as well as 2.5 inches tall. It still promises a full feature set with 1920x1080 widescreen recording in AVCHD (H.264) and a new CMOS sensor that records in light levels as low as 4 lux.

The camera still promises a 30X f1.8-4.7 lens, still image shooting at its video resolution, and both SDHC and microSDHC slots for added storage. JVC only provides about 45 minutes of non-stop shooting given the small battery but does estimate about 11 hours of video at the full resolution and 24Mbps bitrate.

In Japan, the camera should be available next week for the equivalent of $1,235. JVC almost always exports its cameras to the US and may drop the price for an American release most likely to appear at CES next month. [via Impress]

    Missing Info?

In general, as they make the camera lighter and lighter, the more difficult it becomes to hold it really steady. At this kind of price point, one should expect image stabilization, yet not a mention it has this essential feature?

    Um, Paulc

No modern cameras come WITHOUT image stabilization. That's why it's not mentioned.
