iPhone sync problems emerging with select HP computers

updated 07:40 pm EST, Tue December 8, 2009

Issues involve i5/i7 CPUs and Windows 7

A number of Windows users have reported problems when attempting to sync iPhones with select HP computers, according to several threads on Apple and HP forums. The issue appears to be limited to systems integrating Intel's Core i5 or i7 CPUs, along with Windows 7 64-bit. The combination is used on several HP machines such as the dv6t, dv7t, dv8t or Envy notebooks.

The sync problem has left many users frustrated and confused, as the solution remains unclear. Several users have unsuccessfully attempted to address the glitch by updating the chipset drivers, trying different versions of iTunes, using Windows XP modes, and more.

A forum post by sethstor on Microsft TechNet claims the glitch is related specifically to a USB compatibility issue with Windows 7 and Intel's PM55 chipset. Several users have allegedly attempted to contact HP, only to be directed to Apple. Intel representatives have reportedly directed users to contact HP.

HP, Intel and Apple have not yet provided a firmware or software update to enable sync with the affected machines. [via CNET]

    it is not working

it is not working properly if it takes an hour. Go hassle an Apple employee, or AT&T/O2/whoever.

    Well

if a forum poster says what the issue is, it must be true!

Then again, why does it seem like only the iPhone is affected, and not a bunch of other USB devices?
