Nook to miss Christmas at retail?

updated 01:40 pm EST, Fri December 4, 2009

Nook delayed in stores until after Christmas

A source who wishes to remain anonymous recently let Engadget know that the Barnes & Noble Nook reader will not ship to retailers in time for Christmas. The source is credible, as he correctly predicted on Thursday that the expected ship date for preorders of the device will be postponed until January 15th on Friday. Instead of the expected December 7th store ship date, the source maintains the Nook is now expected to arrive in stores sometime next year.

Ever since its introduction, the Nook has been plagued with delays time and again. The reasons for these delays aren't known, but may have to do with a very low initial production run that couldn't begin to meet demand.

The Nook is significant because it has a secondary, color touchscreen and a Wi-Fi connection, unlike other e-book readers and will run on a custom version of the Android operating system.
