Motorola working on entry-level LaJolla handset?

Motorola is planning a new, entry-level Android handset codenamed La Jolla, which is Spanish for "the jewel," according to a Friday AndroidandMe report. While this could mean the device will be aimed at fashion-conscious buyers, it is more likely derived from the location of Motorola's office of the same name in a resort community in San Diego. The LaJolla was first mentioned in the source code for the Motorola Cliq.

Some specs of the upcoming device were also gleaned, including its 528MHz Qualcomm CPU, the MAX7359 keypad and a Kionix 3-axis accelerometer driver. Interestingly, it is also said to use Motorola's Halo i2c touchscreen, which has a 240x400 resolution. Such a resolution was not supported until the release of Google's Android 2.0.1 SDK.

No other specifics are known about the device, though some are speculating it could be the first Android handset to have a flip form factor.
