Micron intros fastest SSD with 355MBps read speed

Micron recently introduced one of the fastest solid state drives on the market with its RealSSD C300. It sports a native SATA 6GBps interface, which Micron claims is a first for the industry. Based on 34nm MLC (multi-level cell) flash memory, the range supports the high-speed ONFI 2.1 standard and is rated at 355MBps read speeds and 215MBps write speeds when at its peak.

As a consequence, Micron promises not just faster boot times but also quicker data transfers and file copying, even in areas where SSDs have regularly lagged behind. Because they have no moving parts they also operate quieter, draw less power and are less susceptible to damage than rotating hard disks.

The RealSSD C300 will be made in 1.8- and 2.5-inch form factors and in 128GB and 256GB capacities. It will be made available for sale early next year, though its pricing is yet to be determined.

Wow! That is simply amazing! I can't wait to see if this will appear in future iMacs? Wonderful technology, and I imagine many possible scenarios!
