Fujitsu reveals UMPC with multi-touch, Windows 7

Fujitsu UH900 the smallest multi-touch PC yet

Fujitsu on Thursday unveiled what could be the most technically advanced UMPC to date. The LifeBook UH900 has just a 5.6-inch screen but uses a capacitive multi-touch display that takes finger input; appropriately, it comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and gets touch support out of the box. A small thumb trackpad and dedicated buttons for common tasks help simplify tasks that don't always work well with pure touch.

A clamshell form factor gives the UMPC room for a relatively large keyboard as well as for components faster than usual for its class. A 1.6GHz Atom, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB solid-state drive give it the speed of a netbook, and it can connect to HSPA-based 3G as well as Wi-Fi.

Weighing little at 1.1 pounds, the UH900 is reaching stores in southeast Asia for the equivalent of about $1,400. Many of Fujitsu's LifeBooks reach the US, but the company hasn't said whether the new model will make the same transition. [via UMPC Portal]
