Sony sees spike in PS3, PSP sales from holiday

Sony late on Monday said it had achieved a record for single-week PlayStation 3 sales last week. The combination of Black Friday deals at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and elsewhere, along with the usual increase in holiday shopping, helped the company push over 440,000 PS3s for the week ended Sunday. Upticks were also seen for PSP sales and for games across all platforms, though the company didn't provide exact numbers.

The surge is a much-needed help for Sony, which has already been seeing a rush of sales from lower-priced PS3s but is estimated to have sold just 320,600 PS3s throughout all of October. It's yet to be determined whether promos have helped the PS3 outsell the Xbox 360, which also had promos last week but has lately been outperformed by Sony.

Some PS3 deals are still ongoing and include a Walmart PS3 bundle that heavily discounts the cost of a PS3 with two games, a movie and a remote.

I was one of the buyers this past weekend. I couldn't resist the great deals. I work with Sharp and I also couldn't resist hooking my new PS3 up to my flat screen tv and witnessing the amazing graphics for myself.
