Save Benjis+ supports bar code scanning

Sol Robots has released Save Benjis+, an app that builds upon the company's previous App Store utility that had allowed users to compare product prices. The app works with the iPhone’s camera to help simplify the process by automatically scanning barcodes. It provides data on over 5 million items from hundreds of different stores, while allowing users to search for items by criteria such as product name, item number, author, actor or publisher, among others.

While the app is optimized for use with the iPhone 3GS, it also supports either the original iPhone or iPhone 3G. Both UPC and EAN bar codes can be scanned, with each item categorized into sections such as Appliances, DVDs, Games, Toys, Cameras, Computers and Baby Supplies. When users have found a better price using the app, they can order it directly from the iPhone interface or send themselves a link for later use.

Save Benjis+ is available directly from the App Store and priced at $2, while the original Saves Benjis costs $1 but lacks the barcode scanning capabilities.
