Device available with 1TB disk

LaCie on Tuesday introduced the LaCinema Classic HD, a media server capable of full 1080p video playback. Users can connect an HDTV using a standard HDMI cable, while Composite connectors are also available. Multichannel DTS audio is supported, sent via HDMI or a dedicated S/PDIF optical port. A 1TB hard drive is integrated for storing movies, music or photos, while a USB 2.0 connection is provided for interface with a computer.

Support for DLNA and UPnP allows the LaCinema to interact with other devices on a home network. Users can share media content with gaming consoles such as a Playstation or Xbox. A variety of video formats are supported, including MKV and DivX, while audio tracks can be stored as AAC, OGG or FLAC files, among others.

The LaCinema Classic HD is compatible with Mac or Windows systems and can be purchased directly from the company for $250.

    "Full 1080p is HYPE"

Even LaCie doesn't clarify whether they mean 1080p60 or 1080p24 or 1080p30. The term full 1080p seems to be pure hype (it's 1920x1080 yeah) BluRays are only encoded at 1080p24.

    Nice price

For an turnkey solution for a media device that a) holds content, b) plays content, and c) share content. Of course, interface and how intuitive it is makes a difference, but good to see devices that aren't limiting you to specific formats.

Like the "designed by Neil"; it's a black shiny box, how much "design" could there be?
