Springy 1.6 archiving software adds 7Z, CAB support

Update handles ZIP archives that fail Zip64 specs

Dragan Milic has released Springy 1.6, adding several new capabilities to the archiving software. Springy can open and browse the contents of an archive or a disk image without extracting any files, and can extract all content or specific files from an archive. It can modify an existing archive or disk image, with options to add, overwrite, delete or rename contents. It also supports both extraction and archiving contents via drag-and-drop.

Version 1.6 adds support for opening, reading and extracting 7Z archives, although creation and modification of 7Z archives will arrive in a later update. Open, read and extract support for Microsoft CAB archives has also arrived in v1.6, while processing speed for ZIP archives is said to be improved. The utility now can handle ZIP archives that don't follow proper Zip64 specifications.

The new version moves Springy from a contextual menu to a services provider application for Snow Leopard users -- it remains a contextual menu for Leopard users. Version 1.6 also supports 'power of 10' protocols introduced in Snow Leopard.

Springy 1.6 runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or higher and is now available for $20.
