Nokia N900 with Maemo Linux now in the US

Nokia on Wednesday lived up to an earlier promise by officially announcing its N900 smartphone is now available for purchase in the US. The company's first phone to use Maemo Linux is being touted as a mobile computer, thanks in large part to the OS and its ability to Mozilla-based browser with Flash support as well as the capability to run many apps at the same time. There is also 32GB of storage space available to users.

The parallel tasks are accomplished through a ARM Cortex-A8 processor and 256MB of RAM. As with the earlier N97, it depends on a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for input; a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with a dual LED flash is also similar to its predecessor. It can both geotag shots and navigate through GPS. Wi-Fi makes an assumed appearance, and a microSDHC memory card slot lets users add 16GB of storage above and beyond the existing capacity.

The Nokia N900 is now available in black only, priced as an unlocked device for $650 at Nokia's flagship stores and online.
