Comcast's On Demand Online going live next month?

Comcast to launch On Demand Online TV in December

Comcast at the NewTeeVee Live conference said it will launch its On Demand Online on demand TV service as soon as December, according to a Thursday ConnectedHome2Go report. The cable provider added at the event that subscribers won't be charged extra and will have access to it on as many as three devices.

An Internet connection is required for the service, as is digital cable service from Comcast. The provider has been upgrading the bandwidth of more than 34 million homes with the DOCSIS 3.0 service for Internet access. This was likely done to future-proof its infrastructure for features such as video streaming and more advanced tasks.

Time Warner Cable's version of the jointly developed service is called TV Everywhere, though there is no indication when this will launch.

On Demand Online and TV Everywhere are believed to be key to help dissuade users from canceling cable subscriptions altogether and instead get their entertainment via the Internet.
