NDrive iPhone navigation app arrives on App Store for $30

updated 05:50 pm EST, Thu November 12, 2009

Full US base map for $30 lifetime license

NDrive Navigation Systems has released its self-titled iPhone app on the US App Store. The GPS utility provides full map coverage for the US, including 3D representations of important buildings or other landmarks. Users can take advantage of a large keyboard for quick entry, while the interface supports multi-touch input for zoom, tilt and shortcuts.

Routing can be optimized for cars, pedestrians or an "adventure" mode, with options for manually blocking roads. Users can also ask for the next best route if they do not prefer the first chosen sequence.

Sound alarms provide an audible alert when the vehicle exceeds a desired maximum speed, while visual and audible notifications warn the user when they go over the street's speed limit.

The Navteq base maps and 1.5 million POIs are downloaded directly onto the device, eliminating the need for an Internet connection while navigating. Users can access additional community data using a 3G network, including favorites and ratings.

NDrive United States of America is now available from the App Store for an introductory price of $29, which includes a lifetime license for Navteq 2009. The company offers equivalent apps for a variety of other countries, including Canada for $40 and Mexico for $70.
